Kick, Hit, Yell!

I started training boxing at the age of seven to defend myself from my older brother. 9 years later of boxing, martial arts …. and soccer in between. I started training bodybuilding after a friend had recommended it as a great form of rehabilitation after breaking a hand while playing soccer. I entered my 1st competition 2 years later, placing 3rd in my weight class at only 63 kilos. I continued competing in bodybuilding competitions winning multiple junior and senior divisions under the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB).

My bodybuilding achievements includes, Northwest junior middleweight champion, Northwest heavyweight champion and overall winner, Vanderbijl park classic champion, South African heavyweight grand prix champion (invited to represent S.A in the World championships in Auckland, New Zealand), and lots more. 2003 while still doing bodybuilding - I started doing Muaythai with Derick Coetzee (Dragon Power Muaythai Gym - Klerksdorp branch, Quinton Chong’s affiliate), But unfortunately I had to prioritize between bodybuilding and Muaythai as bodybuilding was taking away from muaythai by adding extra fatigue while muaythai was taking away from bodybuilding through high energy expenditure. Couldn’t do them both competetively - I chose to do muaythai. Under the auspices of my Muaythai trainer, I competed in my 1st tournament just after 3 months of intense training, the South African Thaiboxing championships. I knocked out the reigning champion in the 2nd round to claim the South African amateur light heavyweight title (got invited to compete in the world championships in Bangkok, but coudn’t make it due to the financial reasons). Continued competing and winning through out the year 2003. Not only did I defend my South African light heavyweight title in 2004, I also got invited to represent South Africa in the World Thaiboxing championships in Larnaka, Corfu Island (Greece) - where I won all my 9 fights to get to the final claiming gold medal in the heavyweight division. I continued competing in the international level between 2004 – 2013 in Muaythai, K1, Low kick and Oriental kickboxing tournaments. The highlights of my muaythai career include winning the World heavyweight thaiboxing championship in Greece, Silver & bronze medalist in the World Thaiboxing championships in Russia, Bronze medalist in the World thaiboxing championships in Cyprus, 4 x man K1 Heavyweight Gladiator knock-out tournament champion, 9 x South African heavyweight Thai-boxing & K1 champion, Gauteng Heavyweight Muaythai champion. In 2011 I competed in my 1st MMA competition XFC African championship, where I won the XFC African light & heavyweight title after defeating 5 MMA fighters in one day to claim the title … and a 10 grand price cheque. Between 2012 - 2014 I was offered a two-years-10-fight-contract with Africa’s biggest MMA federation, EFC africa (later changed to EFC world-wide). Unfortunately due to injuries sustained from years of fighting, I only had 3 fights (EFC 12, 17 and 34) in 2 years. After 2 years of non-competetive fighting, I was offered a one year contract with Last Fighter Standing (LFS), where I competed in the Durban’s 2nd leg of the tournament. I placed 2nd in the heavyweight division. My last fight came in Mar 2017 in Lephalale, Limpopo province – where I fought for the South African Thaiboxing heavyweight title. I suffered Galeazzi fracture-dislocation (fracture of the radius) on my left hand in the 1st round of the fight while trying to defend a kick to the head. Was taken to hospital when I got to Joburg, where I spent 3 weeks as a result. I underwent surgery where 10 hole smith and a nephew plate was used (no 8 hole plates in set) and 13 stitches to reconstruct my left radius - I never fought since then. Brief appearance in wrestling In April 2003 after winning the World heavyweight thaiboxing title. I was invited to take part in the Xtreme World Wrestling (XWW) tournament in Klerkdorp, North West province - where I knocked out a professional wrestler in 9 seconds, winning the fight - making me the 1st black south african born to ever compete in the south african wrestling federation.
